Iowa State Fair – HOT
One of the best state fairs anywhere is the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines, Iowa. It has great shows, fabulous animal barns and displays, super rides and of course great food. The only thing that it doesn’t have is the guarantee that the weather will cooperate and be cool and clear.
This years fair was not only hot, it was swimming with high humidity. We visited the fair, felt like we had been walking in a rain storm by the time we got to the varied industry building with it’s air conditioning and certainly didn’t anticipate having to have a towel to wipe yourself off with to get dry. It was awful!
The displays were wonderful. The talent and creativity of the people of Iowa is outstanding! The animals were beautiful, although they have moved the horse shows to the week prior to the fair (which is not a good thing for those of us that enjoy that during the fair). It just was so darn hot that staying outside for any length of time was more than we chose to do, it was off to the races for us at Prairie Meadows!
