Fertilizer Is Crucial For Proper Care Of Orchids

Properly fertilizing your orchids is vital to their growth. Orchids need the same nutrients as any other plant – potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen. But with orchids, you must apply the nutrients in a particular ratio.
Fertilizers are usually labeled with things like 30-10-10 or 20-20-20 – but what does that mean? These markings are nothing more than an indicator of the ratio of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in the mixture. You have to know which ratio is the right one for your plant.
Just what is that ideal mixture for proper care of orchids? Potted orchids should be fed a 20-20-20 mixture. But if your orchids grow on bark, they might need a 30-10-10. Be careful not to fertilize too much and to give even less in fall through winter – probably a 10-30-20 mixture is good.
