British Rocker Invasion Results In Big Crowns And Big Money
Looking at some of the headlining acts at some rock concerts during 2007 might make one wonder if it were actually 1987 instead. Groups like The Police and Genesis were playing to packed venues here in the United States and stuffing their duffel bags with cash in the process.
That’s not to say that I think this latest British invasion was a bad thing. Actually, I am quite a classic rock fan myself and fondly remember the days when bands like Yes and Led Zeppelin were at the peak of their success.
What’s so encouraging for me these days is the interest in classic rock that seems to be rather common with younger people. I see high school kids with Led Zeppelin T-shirts carrying cell phones that have classic rock ringtones downloaded to them so they can hear their favorite classic tunes when their phone rings.
Perhaps there will be many more British invasions to come, and why not? As long as the interest in classic rock continues, there’s no reason to believe that the reunion tours are over. After a wildly successful and highly publicized reunion show by Led Zeppelin late last year, speculation is rampant that they will embark on a world tour sometime soon.
Long live classic rock. It’s very satisfying to see so many people continuing to enjoy the music I grew up listening to and still love to hear today.
