New 3D Blu-ray Players From Sony and Panasonic
The race is on for 3D supremacy. Panasonic fired the first salvo with their DMP-BDT350, but not to be out done, Sony has followed suit with the launch of their own 3D Blu-ray player BDP-S770. The Panasonic DMP-BDT350 is the only player with dual HDMI outputs. It received the CES Innovations Award 2010 for its 3D technology.
The Sony player will be capable of supporting a variety of media formats including DVD, CD, BD, and SACD. However, in the summer time, Sony will make available a firmware update that will enable 3D functionality. The Sony BDP-S770 will come with Bravia Internet Video, BD-Live support and a USB port that is capable of streaming digital video content from an external source. The BDP-S770 can upscale standard resolutions to a higher image quality during streaming video or while playing standard DVDs using Sony’s proprietary IP Content Noise Reduction technology and Precision Cinema HD Upscaling.
It looks like the push for 3D technology will be in full force this year with a series of new Blu-ray players as well as 3D televisions that the major brands will be promoting and with popular 3D movies such as Avatar as well as others, there will now be an incentive for consumers to upgrade their devices.
