Learning to sail is a great experience and not as difficult as most people think. You will start out by learning the primary parts of a sailboat and how each part is used. A sailing course will teach you how to rig the rudder. It will teach various techniques for sailing at different angles into and around the wind; the skill of accurately turning and the stopping the boat. The course will teach you how to drop sail, rope work; how to respond in an emergency, and the use of a tender. You will also learn how to properly bring the boat back into the dock, as well as mooring skills.

A day skipper is a trained individual that can operate most water crafts. Day skippers understand how to navigate and dock an average sized boat, ship, or yacht. They are skilled in managing rough tides, and can interpret all water safety guidelines and regulations.
